Establishing the Proper Color Management

To preserve maximum latitude, we shoot raw formats across our camera systems. When importing these large assets into DaVinci Resolve, we immediately apply strict color space transformations to convert raw log structures into manageable working color systems.

Node Tree Discipline

A messy timeline is prone to errors. At West Point, we mandate an identical node tree template for all senior colorists. This incorporates dedicated nodes for primary exposures, white balancing, skin tone isolations, and localized vignettes.

Applying the Creative Tone

Rather than using cheap, over-the-counter filters, we build custom LUTs and film emulsion overlays. This replicates classic analog formats, adding rich grain, pleasant highlight roll-offs, and authentic skin-tone textures that capture immediate viewer interest.
